The rock anchor in front of Owen, white helmet, partially collapsed whist he was abseiling from it. I belayed him back up the the cliff whilst Shiva held the rock in place. We then trundled the loose bits until it was safe to abseil. Mt Ruapehu, New Zealand.

martyblumen > Conference  Owen Lee and Shiva Nami confer on the best possible to way to traverse The Pinnacles.  Normally a winter route, in summer the underlying 'weetbix' rock crumbled easily and it took up to an hour to find a stable anchor from which we could abseil. Mt Ruapehu, New Zealand.
